Cantine Terra dei Re was the first company in the world to obtain the Friend of the Earth certification in the wine sector. Aglianico del Vulture Nocte was the first certified sustainable wine. In the viticultural sector, the definition of “Sustainability” can be identified with the conservation of environmental and varietal conditions. Being sustainable means preserving what has been passed down to us and what nature has given us. Sustainability is closely linked to biodiversity, or the quantity of flora and fauna present in a given environment. We have therefore implemented all the necessary actions to not interfere with what nature has created. The project has brought our company to the forefront of sustainable wine production. We start from the concept that every time a vehicle is started, CO2 is released into the atmosphere. To begin with, we need to train the staff, they need to know what to do to pollute less. We have collected the data necessary to identify the emission flows by analyzing the life cycle of our wines. Detecting energy consumption in the vineyard, knowing what impact transport has in terms of incoming and outgoing pollution, knowing precisely consumption in the cellar allows us to intervene where there is excess energy consumption. We produce electricity through photovoltaic systems, we collect rainwater that we use in agriculture, we have reduced energy consumption and we practice precision agriculture. After about ten years of study and data collection we have determined the environmental impact of each of our bottles of wine. After this determination we implemented corrective measures, reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by over 30%. We can confirm that the production of our wines has a very low environmental impact.
