Various lava flows have enriched the structure of the Vulture soils
In the lithological study of the areas where our vineyards are located, we always find the presence
of the volcanic component, with the presence of tufa banks and clay areas. Drivers of the
differentiation of wine characteristics.
“Placed on the top of the most pleasant hill, the situation of
Rionero could not be more propitious to the education of the shoot of Bacchus. The volcanic quality
of its soils, which are moderately tempered by the calcareous elements, of which all the mountains
surrounding the Vulture detect, concurs.
Outside the village from east to noon, in the happiest exposure between Rionero, Barile and
Ripacandida , the vines are planted and conducted as in well-ordered gardens, the vines are kept low
four palms away from each other , and in the pruning there is left only one branch or a second with
only two eyes, the vine leaf are supported by three reeds. The vineyards of Rionero shake hands with
those of Barile, Rapolla and Melfi, but in the latter two places between the vines are planted olive
trees and several other fruit trees”. (Enzo Cervellino, Regio Vulturis)
