Various lava flows have enriched the structure of the Vulture soils

In the lithological study of the areas where our vineyards are located, we always find the presence of the volcanic component, with the presence of tufa banks and clay areas. Drivers of the differentiation of wine characteristics.
“Set upon a most delightful hill, the setting of Rionero could not have been more favourable to the cultivation of Bacchus’s young vine. This is due in part to the volcanic nature of its soils, suitably tempered by the calcareous elements found throughout the mountains surrounding Mount Vulture. Beyond the town, from east to south, in the most favourable position between Rionero, Barile and Ripacandida, the vines are planted and tended as if in perfectly ordered gardens. The vines are kept low, with four palms’ breadth between them, and when pruned, only a single cane is left, or a second one with just two buds. The shoots are trained against three canes arranged in the shape of a pyramid, and the soil is worked three or four times a year. The vineyards of Rionero join hands with those of Barile, Rapolla and Melfi; yet in the latter two places, olive trees and various other fruit trees are planted among the vines.” (Enzo Cervellino, Regio Vulturis)
